Release Date: Summer 1978

On the last weekend in September, 1976, the Pinot Noir vines of Mount Eden yielded 184 boxes of delicate, tasteful berries. The production was small, but with it came lovely quality.

19% of the grapes crushed had the stems removed as they were placed in stainless steel fermenters. The primary fermentation took place from September 26 to October 3, at which time the grapes were pressed with a Brix content of -0.9°. The malo lactic fermentation was complete by the middle of December, 1976. Being a Pinot Noir of the more delicate style, no fining was necessary and only fifteen months of aging in Limousin oak barrels was needed to mellow this wine appropriately.

This Pinot Noir is reminiscent of the 1973 vintage, having the characteristics of the classic French Burgundies. With a mouth filling, berry like quality, this is a subtly rich wine that can be enjoyed now for aged for several years.
