Domaine Eden Chardonnay 2019

Tasting Notes

Release Date: Spring 2022

In 2019, late rains hit the flowering season hard and brought our harvest down to the lowest yields since 1998.

That said, here in the Santa Cruz Mountains we are accustomed to the twists of nature. The wine quality is the only thing that genuinely matters and the vintage turned out wonderfully --subtle aromas of hazelnut, anise and vanilla. On the palate, crisp minerality with firm structured acidity is foremost. Flavors of citrus, earth and brown spice come to the fore.

Given the winemaking style, which emphasizes Burgundian ageability, expect future development over the next ten years.

Aromas of lemon confit, toasted almond, damp oak and a hint of sour cream make for a complex and compelling nose on this bottling. The palate opens with toasted nut flavors before heading into lemon curd, dried nectarine and sea salt. That blanched almond touch returns for the finish. —M.K.

Rich and succulent, showing a broad range of flavors, from nutmeg-laced spices and candied orange zest to salted, toasted hazelnut, Fuji apple, lemon zest and dried thyme. Packs plenty of harmony on the long, expressive finish. Drink now through 2030. —M.W.
