Edna Valley MacGregor Vineyard, Chardonnay 2001

Tasting Notes

Release Date: Fall 2003

This is our seventeenth vintage from this perfectly situated vineyard. Although we are experimenting with other vineyard sites in the Edna Valley, from our view this one, from a pioneer in the valley, is the best.

An October harvest, one of the latest in California for Chardonnay, gave us a big ripe vintage typical of recent years. As one would expect, the wine is big in scale yet with the Mount Eden signature of delicacy and delineation.

Barrel aging on the yeast a full eleven months gives this vintage a beautiful, full texture along with vineyards specific flavors of pineapple, guava, grapefruit and toasty oak.
