Mount Eden Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 1994

Tasting Notes

Release Date: Spring 1997

As was true for all our estate vineyards, 1994 has turned out to be a monumental vintage.  It's subtle thing, a great year in the winegrower's world.  Vines, farming techniques, vision, and winemaking remain substantially the same but each year the wines change in personality.  Many years from now we will look back on 1994 and truly appreciate its stature amongst its cellar-mates.  As mentioned previously in describing the Estate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, a year like this rarely comes along my excitement is hard to rein in.

A deep purple hue suggests solidity. Complex, earthy, cassis aromas are very buoyant and inviting. Ripe, juicy, forward fruit, with an extraordinary depth of flavor, this wine is generous yet still retains an elegance which speaks of this noble variety.

Interesting flavors, hints of currant, anise and chocolate, steal the show after a tart, earthy note at the outset. Finishing with firm tannins, it is drinkable now but can be cellared into 2002.
