Tasting Notes
Release Date: Spring 2001
This is my twentieth year making and writing to you about Mount Eden’s wines. During this delightful time the ’98 Cabernet has to be one of the more ethereal offerings.
Ruby red in color, this wine has a spicy nose of violet, blackberry, leather, and crushed raw cassis that is very engaging. On the palate, it has surprising delicacy of weight and texture yet with complex flavors of blue fruits, black olives, mocha with underlying hints of minerals. Tannins are light and suave.
Harvested from late October to mid November, aged in French oak for eighteen months and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Drinking well now, it will provide pleasure for the next five to seven years.
