The most complicated of the Domaine Eden wines in terms of vineyard sourcing, the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is made from two Los Gatos vineyards, from Domaine Eden, and from some declassified Mount Eden Bordeaux varieties. This vintage consists of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and 2% each Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, meant to represent the middle of the appellation’s mountain range. It spends 22 months in a blend of American and French oak, all neutral, including 2- to 5-year-old barrels used previously by Mount Eden. Blackcurrant and cassis dominate on the nose, with balanced layers of dried herb, black olive, and approachable tannins prevailing on the palate. Drink now through 2030. – V.B.
