92 points - April 2025

The most complicated of the Domaine Eden wines in terms of vineyard sourcing, the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is made from two Los Gatos vineyards, from Domaine Eden, and from some declassified Mount Eden Bordeaux varieties. This vintage consists of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and 2% each Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, meant to represent the middle of the appellation’s mountain range. It spends 22 months in a blend of American and French oak, all neutral, including 2- to 5-year-old barrels used previously by Mount Eden. Blackcurrant and cassis dominate on the nose, with balanced layers of dried herb, black olive, and approachable tannins prevailing on the palate. Drink now through 2030. – V.B.

92 points - May 31, 2025

Dark and winey, with mulberry, boysenberry and black currant fruit that shows a zesty edge. This offers brambly grip, with sweet bay, violet and anise notes darting around to add range and energy. Best from 2026 through 2038. – J.M.

Cellar Selection

Savory aromas of charred wood and carob are very dark and intense on the nose of this savory showcase. The woodspide layers weave through blackberry and elderberry on the palate, where firm tannic framing ensures a long life. Drink now – 2039. – M.K.

TASTING NOTES:

Release Date: Spring 2024

Our Domaine Eden Cabernet is sourced from four local vineyards, including four acres at our Domaine Eden site, in contrast to our Estate Cabernet Sauvignon which is solely from our Mount Eden Estate. These vineyards share our commitment to conservative yields, hand tending and sustainable practices.

2020 was a drought year, the start of a three-year cycle; however, there was abundant rain in 2019 which lessened the effects. Harvest was leisurely in late September/early October with full ripeness.

Classic black currant aromas with nuances of mint and olive, the youthful tannins are soft and present. Beautiful round flavors of currant, plum and earth come across the palate with a surprising sense of harmony. Although tempting to drink now, this vintage will continue to evolve over the next decade.
